Under our MTC agreement with Sheffield Hallam University we were asked to tender for the design and build of a new entrance way in the main lobby, a number of contractors in the past had tried to quote for this project but could not meet the required specification.
The new doors had to conform to fire regulations to be 2hr rated as there was nothing on the market for power assisted doors it proved a difficult task.
We approached a company that were carrying out testing on metal double doors for a 2hr rating , then we approached a door equipment company to arrange for their equipment to be tested along with the door manufactures to try and achieve the fire rating required, once the relevant certification had been approved we instructed the manufacturer to start the design to our specifications.
Works commenced at the beginning of the holiday season and was completed on time for the students term time.
This installation was the first of its kind in Europe to be an automatically operated doors to achieve a 2hr fire rating.
The full entrance way and lift lobby was totally refurbished within agreed time limits and on budget
