It goes without saying that 2020 has certainly been a challenging year for one and all. Not only was the whole world impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, but the run up to Brexit certainly made everything quite surreal. Many businesses and individuals have felt the ripples of the effect both events have had on the economy. Unfortunately, this has ultimately resulted in many individuals and families losing their only source of income.
This winter has been a difficult period for everyone, not only because of the lack of warmth, but rather knowing that amongst common bugs and flu, we have the added strain of the COVID-19 pandemic. Given these unprecedented times and constantly changing restrictions on social distancing, we knew that Christmas and New year this time, would be vastly different in comparison to earlier years.
However, if the pandemic has taught us anything, then it is to appreciate what we have and to help those who are in need or less fortunate. We, at Burngreave Building Company, believe the needs of others and especially those who are vulnerable, lie above everything else. We value the importance of our community and strive to always give something back to society. It is only by working collectively that we can come together, helping one another and thus, bettering society overall.
With this in mind, we decided that something had to be done and consequently came up with a ‘Give Back Initiative’. On Tuesday 22 December 2020, in association with Hinde House Secondary School, Sheffield, we delivered a vast number of food parcels to various food banks. Armed with our fleet of Company vans, members of our organisation delivered large boxes of cereal, porridge, and soup to ‘Foodworks’ in Sheffield, a food distribution centre for people in need. We also delivered similar parcels to a local church, so that they could help distribute food within their own community.
However, we understand that this is not a one-time fix. We therefore plan on delivering similar food parcels again in the near future, with a view to do so on a continuous basis.
We hope this article motivates those who are more fortunate to help those who are less so. If you would like to become involved in this ‘Give Back Initiative’, please feel free to get in touch with us, after all, this is a collective effort.
